A Family Photoshoot in Lower Slaughter
On Saturday 23rd May 2026, during one of the UK's hottest spring weekends, I met a wonderful family visiting from America for a relaxed family photoshoot in Lower Slaughter, one of the Cotswolds' most beautiful villages.
I felt so honoured they chose me as their photographer. For their session, I selected the stunning village of Lower Slaughter as the backdrop to capture their time here in the UK.
Travelling all the way from America, they wanted to document their family holiday with natural, timeless photographs surrounded by classic English countryside charm, and Lower Slaughter delivered perfectly.
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, Lower Slaughter feels like stepping into a storybook. With its honey-coloured stone cottages, riverside pathways, historic water mill, and peaceful rural setting, it's easy to see why visitors from around the world fall in love with this enchanting village.
A Relaxed Photography Experience for Visiting Families
Their journey with me started long before the photoshoot date. I designed a style and outfit guide for them so their photos looked timeless and complemented the wonderful scenery they were due to be photographed in. I also sent over a questionnaire so I could get to know a bit more about the family beforehand, this is really important to me as a photographer, I pride myself on making the session more personable. To feel like you are visiting an old friend for a walk and a chat, not complete a transaction with little love, care or emotion. This wonderful American family wanted their session to feel natural and relaxed rather than overly posed. A few gentle prompts from me allowed them to be in the moment and the rest unfolded naturally. We spent the morning wandering through the quiet lanes of Lower Slaughter, stopping along the river, exploring hidden corners, stepping onto the bridges, having a paddle and simply letting the family enjoy the views.
These are always my favourite kinds of sessions, genuine laughter and real connection, it's something that can't be faked and shines through my lens.
One of the things overseas families often tell me is how much they appreciate having professional photographs taken during such a meaningful trip. Holidays pass quickly, but photographs preserve those memories and the trip forever. Thats what I want the session to be, a fun memory. A conversation starter when you look back on your photos.
