A Cotswolds Maternity Photoshoot in Lower & Upper Slaughter

Visiting the Cotswolds for Christmas? Make It Part of Your Family Memories

This was something rather special about photographing a family somewhere that feels completely different from home.

This beautiful family had travelled all the way from India to the Cotswolds, and while they were visiting, we spent an evening exploring some of the most beautiful corners of the area for their maternity photoshoot.

From the winding lanes and honey-coloured stone of Lower Slaughter to the quiet meadows and beautiful countryside surrounding Upper Slaughter, this was the kind of evening that made me very grateful to call the South West home.

And honestly? What better place to celebrate a growing family?

A Cotswolds Maternity Photoshoot With A Difference

When you think about maternity photography, you might immediately picture a studio. But this was different (although it is a dream of mine to have a studio one day to offer a different vibe!)

For me, maternity photographs should still feel like you.

There should be movement, connection, laughter and those little moments between the beautifully posed photographs.

So rather than spending the entire session standing in one spot, we explored.

We walked through the Cotswolds countryside, took in the views, wandered through the beautiful villages and made the most of the evening light.

The result was a gallery that feels like a mixture of Maternity Photography, Family Photography and a little Cotswolds adventure all rolled into one.

Maternity Photography In Lower Slaughter

Lower Slaughter is one of those Cotswolds locations that almost doesn't look real. It can be SO peaceful.

The traditional honey-coloured Cotswold stone, little bridges, quiet lanes and the River Eye running through the village make it such a beautiful backdrop for photography.

But what I love most about photographing families here is that it doesn't have to feel overly posed or “touristy”. We can walk, talk, stop for photographs when the light is beautiful and allow the session to unfold naturally.

For a maternity photoshoot, this works particularly well because the focus isn't just on the bump.

It's about the family that is already there, and the little person who is about to join them.

The way they hold hands. The way they look at each other. The excitement of knowing that everything is about to change. Those are the photographs I want to create.

Exploring Upper Slaughter And The Surrounding Meadows

From Lower Slaughter, we also explored Upper Slaughter and the surrounding Cotswolds meadows.

And this is where the evening really came into its own. There is something about being surrounded by open countryside, particularly in the softer evening light, that gives maternity photographs such a beautiful sense of calm.

It also gives us space to move. Instead of asking a family to stand still and smile at the camera, I can give them little prompts and things to do.

Walk together. Hold hands. Talk to each other. Look at the person you love. Take a moment with your bump. And sometimes, simply forget I'm there. Those in-between moments are often my favourites.

A Maternity Photoshoot For An Expectant Family Visiting From India

What made this session particularly special was knowing that these photographs would become part of their memories of their time in the Cotswolds. They weren't simply having maternity photographs taken.

They were documenting a very particular chapter of their lives while travelling together, while expecting their baby and while experiencing somewhere completely new.

I love that idea. Because photographs don't always have to document where you live.

Sometimes they can document where you were when something important happened. Years from now, these photographs won't just bring back memories of their pregnancy.

They'll bring back memories of their time in the Cotswolds, the little villages they explored, the countryside around them and this particular season of life before their family grew. And that makes them even more meaningful.

Why Choose The Cotswolds For Your Maternity Photoshoot?

The Cotswolds is one of my favourite areas for maternity and family photography because there is so much variety within a relatively small area.

You can have the beautiful architecture and charm of a traditional Cotswold village, then be surrounded by open countryside just minutes later.

That means your Cotswolds Maternity Photoshoot doesn't have to look like everyone else's.

We can incorporate:

Beautiful Cotswold Villages

Open meadows and Countryside

Quiet Country Lanes

Golden-hour light

Traditional honey-coloured stone

Walking and exploring

Plenty of opportunities for natural family photographs

And if you're travelling to the Cotswolds from elsewhere in the UK or even from another country, we can make the session feel like part of your trip rather than something you have to squeeze into your itinerary.

Looking For A Cotswolds Maternity Photographer?

If you're looking for a Cotswolds Maternity Photographer who will give you more than a collection of photographs of you standing and smiling at the camera, you're in the right place.

My maternity sessions are relaxed, natural and centred around connection.

Whether you're expecting your first baby, adding another little person to your family or travelling to the Cotswolds for a special trip, I'll guide you through the session without making you feel like you need to know how to pose.

You don't need to be a model. You don't need to know what to do with your hands. And your children definitely don't need to behave perfectly.

We'll walk, explore, laugh, cuddle and enjoy the experience and I'll take care of the photographs. Because your maternity photographs should capture more than what you looked like while you were pregnant.

They should capture how this chapter felt.

Whether you're looking for maternity photography in Lower Slaughter, Upper Slaughter or somewhere else in the Cotswolds, we can find a location that suits your family and the kind of photographs you want to create.

And if you're travelling from further afield, we'll make the session part of the experience. Because honestly, I can't think of many better ways to remember a trip to the Cotswolds than with photographs of the people you love and the little person you were waiting to meet.

A Christmas Trip To The Cotswolds Is The Perfect Excuse For Family Photographs

There is something particularly magical about the Cotswolds at Christmas.

The little villages are beautiful all year round, but add twinkling lights, Christmas trees, cosy cottages and frosty countryside and suddenly it feels like you've stepped into a Christmas film.

If you're travelling to the Cotswolds for a festive getaway with your family, why not make the photographs part of the trip?

I especially love the idea of photographing families at the beautiful Airbnb, holiday cottage or B&B they've hired for their Christmas stay.

Imagine your children in their Christmas pyjamas, the tree twinkling behind them, everyone gathered together in the kitchen making breakfast, cousins playing in the lounge, or Mum and Dad having five minutes together while the children are distracted by the Christmas tree.

These aren't photographs you could recreate at home.

They're photographs of this Christmas, in this place, with these people.

And then, when you return home, you'll have more than photographs from your holiday. You'll have a little visual reminder of the Christmas you spent together in the Cotswolds.
